About Me

Hi, I’m David, and I created ThinkRetain.com to help you master your memory. Memory isn’t just a skill; it’s the foundation of all learning. I know this because I’ve been an English teacher for years, guiding students—from high school to university prep—on how to read, write, and think more effectively. The transformation I see in students when they harness their memory power is remarkable.

My journey started when I was 22, on a winter day in the library. I came across a little book called The Memory Book by Harry Lorayne. Within minutes, I was linking and memorizing a list of ten items—and reciting it backwards. It was a revelation.

You see, I was raised to believe I was stupid. Back then, learning differences like ADHD weren’t widely recognised. I struggled in school, constantly feeling behind. That book showed me something no one ever had: I wasn’t broken—I was just wired differently. And I was capable of far more than anyone, including me, had ever imagined.

But while I was excited by what I’d learned, I quickly realized most memory techniques were taught as parlor tricks. Impressive, yes—but I wanted more. I wanted to apply these techniques to serious academic learning, to real knowledge I needed to retain long-term. That’s what eventually led to the creation of ThinkRetain.com.

This site is built for people like me—and maybe like you. Whether you’re a student trying to retain course content, a professional learning new skills, or a senior who refuses to accept that mental sharpness fades with age, you’ll find practical, brain-based tools here to help you grow. The truth is, memory is not fixed. You can build it. Improve it. Even transform it. At any age.

The Genesis of ThinkRetain: Bridging Memory and Mastery

With ThinkRetain, I set out to build a practical and insightful resource. It’s about connecting the dots between effective memory techniques and real-world applications. I’ve spent countless hours researching and testing various methods to ensure what I recommend truly works. I focus on approaches that serve students, professionals, and lifelong learners alike.

My journey through various books and methods taught me invaluable lessons. For instance, Joshua Foer’s ‘Moonwalking with Einstein’ not only captivated me but challenged me to push the boundaries of what we think is possible with memory. Techniques like the memory palace, alongside methods from the Magnetic Memory Method, have proven to be effective tools that anyone can learn.

But this project is more than just sharing what I’ve learned—it’s about creating a community where learning isn’t just a solitary endeavor. At ThinkRetain, the goal is to ensure that our approach to memory development is holistic, engaging, and most importantly, trustworthy. Here, you’re not just picking up tips; you’re transforming your cognitive potential.

Beyond Memory: David’s Personal Interests and Affiliations

While memory techniques are at the heart of what I do, there’s more to my story. Outside of developing ThinkRetain, I have a deep love for exploring new ideas and technologies that push the boundaries of personal growth and productivity. Whether it’s discovering the latest tools for effective learning or engaging with like-minded individuals, I’m continuously seeking ways to stretch my own potential.

On a more personal note, I find inspiration in the everyday and believe in the power of curiosity. Interacting with diverse thinkers opens up new avenues of wisdom and insight, reminding me that learning is a lifelong journey. It’s this mindset that I bring to ThinkRetain, hoping to foster an inclusive space where everyone feels encouraged to explore their intellectual capabilities.

If you’re passionate about moving beyond memory and delving into broader aspects of brain training and personal development, then ThinkRetain is a place for you. Together, let’s embark on this expedition of mastering our minds, because enhancing memory is just the beginning.

Cheers,

David
